COVID-19 Update

11th May, 2020 – Operating Restriction Update

On 8th May, the National Cabinet approved a move to Level 1 restrictions for Dentists.

This announcement gives dentists the ability to perform ALL dental treatments using standard precautions for people who do not meet epidemiological or clinical risks for COVID-19.

Orange Family Dental is operating at full capacity and we look forward to seeing our patients whose treatments we had to delay back in our chairs soon.

We continue to ask anyone with cold and flu like systems to reschedule your appointment.

Government announces easing of restrictions for Dentists
22nd April 2020

It is with cautious optimism that we can announce a partial lifting of the practice restrictions that Orange Family Dental has been working under for the last 4 weeks due to Covid – 19.

The partial lifting of restrictions will allow us attend to a wider range of dental problems that require treatment from 27th April.

This easing of restrictions is part of the nationwide partial lifting of elective surgery restrictions that Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced yesterday and is hopefully a step in the right direction toward a gradual easing of social distancing measures.

The easing of the restrictions is for specific treatments. Please continue to call our Front Desk team on 6362 1100 to discuss your dental concerns and we will advise you of the best and safest course of action.

The team at Orange Family Dental are very proud to live in a country and work in a profession that, despite our differences, has done the right thing to flatten the curve and save lives.

Covid-19 Update – Changes to our business operations
Still valid as at April 20, 2020.

Times are tough and we’re all in this together.

We all have a role to play in trying to limit the spread of COVID-19 and flatten the curve.

Whilst it is essential that emergency and urgent dental treatment continue to be provided, we will be rescheduling any non-urgent appointments until May 2020. This is in line with Australian Dental Association recommendations. All affected patients will contacted via phone, email or text, over the next week.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this.

Please remember that we are here for you, and will continue to be until such time as the Australian Dental Association guidelines or Government advice changes.

Will we be forced to close our doors? This is impossible to predict as is everything with this virus. Even if we are forced to close our doors we will offer some form of over the phone advice and directions for patients that are in pain.

Currently, if you are in pain, or have a condition that is likely to require emergency care if left untreated, we will not delay your appointment. Please call us if you need to book an appointment or discuss any concerns.

We appreciate the trust you have placed in us over the years with your patronage and look forward to a coronavirus free future.

Covid – 19 Novel Coronavirus update 23rd March, 2020

The Dental Board of Australia and the Australian Dental Association, as of 19/3/20, have allowed us to continue to operate unrestricted. This is due to the world leading infection control procedures and policies that Australian dental practices already have in place.

The Wellness House, which is the medical centre in which Orange Family Dental operates, has fully implemented their TeleHealth consultations.  This allows people suffering cold and flu like symptoms to consult with their GP over the phone from home thereby significantly reducing the risk of spread of Covid – 19 to patients, staff and allied health practices within the premises.

If you have an upcoming appointment and you are suffering cold and flu like symptoms or have travelled overseas in the past 14 days we kindly request you call to reschedule your appointment.

Many Thanks
The Orange Family Dental Team

Covid – 19 Novel Coronovirus update 17th March, 2020

To our valued patients,

We are wanting to help you understand where your upcoming dental appointment fits into overall scheme of the unprecedented global events surrounding the spread of COVID – 19 Novel Coronavirus.

We are following the guidelines and directives that have been established by the Federal Department of Health, NSW Health, the Dental Board of Australia and the Australian Dental Association.

All the above agencies have never faced a global pandemic before and as such their advice is likely to change at any time. Please continue to check this website or our Orange Family Dental Facebook page for updates.

What do we know?

Visiting the dentist is a very safe thing to do. We have stringent infection control and hygiene measures which stop the transmission of the virus or any other micro-organism. These measures are on par with an hospital facilities and include;

  • Autoclaving of all instruments which kills all micro-organisms including COVID – 19.
  • Track and traceability of all instruments.
  • Liberal use of hospital grade disinfectants, which disable COVID – 19, on all surfaces that you as the patient, the dentist and the staff, come into contact with.
  • Surgical grade personal protective equipment that protects you, the dentist and the dental nurse.
  • Surgical grade masks and gloves which allow us to cross the threshold of ‘social distancing’ without putting you or us at risk.
  • Any dentist or staff member with signs of symptoms of any cold and flu are sent home.

It is important to put these measures into the context of you visiting other places where the risk of transmission of COVID – 19 is higher due to lower standards of infection control and hygiene.

As our practice is located in a medical centre (The Wellness House) the waiting room is shared with people who are visiting the doctor or one of the many Allied Health Practitioners. It is still a very safe place to visit and is disinfected often. As per the current health guidelines, any patients who have recently travelled overseas or have cold and flu symptoms are being ask to consult the GP’s by phone to be assessed.

We understand, however, that you may have reservations about sitting in the waiting room for any length of time. If you have these concerns, please call ahead of time so we can advise you on how to limit your time within the waiting room.

As the situation is evolving rapidly, we will continue to update you with information that is relevant to any upcoming dental appointments you may have.

Thank you for your ongoing patronage.

Dr. Patrick Rourke, Dr. Cheng Zhang, Dr. Amy Calvin
