Crooked Teeth

If you have crooked teeth or teeth that have moved over time, we can provide solutions both within our surgery and alongside our orthodontic partners at Orthodontics Exclusively who share our commitment to patient comfort and satisfaction. This also includes orthodontics for children.

Dr Patrick Rourke, Dr Cheng Zhang, Dr Stephanie Hollis or Dr Hwyel Davies can evaluate your smile—or that of your child—and if there are issues with crooked teeth or alignment, we can provide a treatment plan to address these issues.

Orthodontics can Treat:

  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Crooked teeth
  • Twisted teeth
  • Overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overcrowding

It’s important to remember that straight teeth are more than aesthetically pleasing. A straight smile and aligned bite may also reduce wear on specific teeth that are counted on to do most of the chewing. Tooth wear may lead to cavities and even breakage over time.

Straight teeth are also easier to clean and care for because there are no overlapping nooks for bacteria to collect and hide from your toothbrush and dental floss.

Clear Aligners Compared with Traditional Braces

Our dentists or orthodontic partners evaluate your case and make the best determination for your smile. Typically, traditional bracket and wire braces do better for severe cases with bite alignment issues, and clear braces may be considered for mild to moderate problems. For younger children, bracket braces are the typical course, but clear braces are the first choice for older teens and adults.

In any case, patients who thought they could not wear clear braces or aligners are sometimes surprised when the orthodontist gives them the go-ahead.

Clear braces rely on custom aligners that you change out every few weeks. You can remove your aligners when eating and cleaning your teeth.

Traditional braces consist of brackets and wires that your dentist adjusts periodically across the treatment course. Traditional braces are fixed and not removable.

Orthodontics, no matter the option, can take anywhere from several months to two years to bring your teeth in line.

Invisalign Go in box

Invisalign is a virtually clear aligner tray system where a series of custom-made removable aligners gently straighten your teeth.

This system is specially designed for general dentists to correct mild to moderate crowding. This can be used alone or paired with whitening, fillings, crowns or veneers to provide a new smile.

At Orange Family Dental we use photography and Smile Design software to plan your bespoke smile with your input.

Most treatment ranges from between 15-35 weeks of wearing the clear retainers at least 22 hours of the day. Some cases may not be appropriate for this system but we are happy to assist you in referring to a qualified orthodontist whom we can work with to create your smile.

Dental Veneers Dental Veneer

Dental Veneers are thin shells that go across the fronts of teeth, giving the illusion of a straight and symmetrical smile.

Veneers may conceal the following:

  • Slightly crooked teeth
  • Gummy smiles
  • Disproportionate tooth height
  • Discolouration
  • Small gaps between teeth

The tooth or teeth to be concealed are "prepped" which means they are filed back to allow for the veneer to be bonded on.
